Runic Astrology

The Elder Futhark laid across the year, two runes to a month, from Fehu to Othala.

The twenty four runes of the Elder Futhark are the oldest written alphabet of the Germanic peoples, cut into stone, bone and wood from roughly the second century onward. Each rune is a letter and a word at once: fehu is cattle and so wealth, uruz is the wild ox and so untamed strength, ansuz is the god and so the voice.

Runic astrology divides the year into twenty four half months and gives each one a rune, in the order the futhark itself runs. Your half month rune is the one you were born under. The alphabet is genuinely ancient; the birth calendar built on it is a twentieth century arrangement, and we would rather tell you which is which than blur them together.

How it is computed

The Elder Futhark as half-months of the year, after Nigel Pennick's runic calendar (1990). A modern construction with old materials, not an ancient practice; we say so.
