A modern synthesis, born in 1987, that reads a birth as a body graph of defined and open centres.
Human Design combines the I Ching's sixty four hexagrams, the chakra system, the tree of life and the natal chart into one diagram. Two calculations feed it: your birth moment, and a design moment about eighty eight degrees of solar arc earlier. Where the gates activated by those two moments join, a channel forms and the centres at its ends become defined. What is defined is consistent in you; what is open is where you take in and amplify other people.
From that graph come the pieces most readings lead with: type, strategy, authority and profile. Kosmovision is straight about where this comes from. It was received by Ra Uru Hu in 1987 and it is a young synthesis rather than an ancient lineage, which does not make the body graph less useful to think with, and we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise.
The five types
The five ways a body graph can be wired, and the strategy each one implies.
Generator
You carry a steady inner engine, a life force that hums when the work is right and goes quiet when it is not. Life is not meant to be chased; it comes to you as things to answer. Your gut gives an immediate yes or no. Follow it and your days fill with satisfaction; override it and frustration will tell you that you have drifted.
Manifesting Generator
You are built with both a powerful engine and a fast track to action. Life still comes to you as things to answer, your gut's immediate yes or no, but once it says yes, you move quickly, often skipping steps others need. Tell people before you leap so they can keep up. Satisfaction says you are on course; frustration says you forced it.
Projector
You are not here to labor endlessly; you are here to see: into people, systems, and how energy is spent. Your gift lands best when it is genuinely invited, so let recognition come to you before you guide. Rest more than the busy world suggests. When you are seen and welcomed, success follows; when you push in uninvited, bitterness is the warning.
Manifestor
You are one of the few designed to initiate: to start things from an inner urge without waiting for permission. Your impact is real, and it ripples before you notice. The kindness that keeps your path clear is simple: inform the people your actions will touch before you act. Then resistance softens, anger fades, and what you are truly after, peace, becomes your climate.
Reflector
None of your energy centers is fixed, and that is not a lack: it is a rare openness. You sample everything around you and mirror it back, a living gauge of your community's health. Big decisions deserve a full lunar month, talked through while the moon changes you. Life done well brings a steady delight of surprise; disappointment means the surroundings, not you, need changing.

Inner authority
Where a decision is best made in you: the gut, the emotional wave, the spleen, the voice.
Emotional
Your truth arrives on a wave, not in an instant. Feelings rise and fall around every choice, and the answer you would give at the peak differs from the one at the low. So wait. Sleep on it, more than once if the matter is large. When the wave settles and the same quiet answer keeps returning, that is your clarity, and it is worth the patience.
Sacral
Your surest compass is the gut's immediate response, a rising 'uh-huh' toward what nourishes you, a flat 'uh-uh' away from what drains you. It speaks in the moment, before the mind builds its case, and it does not explain itself. Let people ask you direct questions; feel the answer in your body. The mind advises well, but this deeper yes and no decides.
Splenic
You are guided by instinct, a quiet, in-the-moment knowing about what is safe, healthy, and right for you. It speaks once, softly, and does not repeat itself, so the practice is learning to catch the first whisper before the mind talks over it. It cannot be argued with or scheduled; it simply knows, now. Trust it especially when you cannot explain why.
Ego
Your compass is the heart's honest appetite: what do you actually want, and what will you truly commit to? Not what you should want; what you have the will to see through. Speak your options aloud and listen for the ring of real desire, often in the words 'I want' or 'I will'. A promise made from that place holds; one made to please does not.
Self-Projected
Your truth lives in your own voice. You discover what is right for you not by thinking harder but by talking it out and hearing what you say. Find people who will listen without steering, and speak the decision through. Beneath the words, one question settles everything: will this make me more myself, or less? Follow whatever answer sounds most like you.
Mental
You have no single body-signal to obey, and that is by design. Your clarity is gathered, not fired: talk decisions through with a few trusted people, not for their advice, but to hear yourself think out loud. Notice how different places and rooms change your knowing. Take your time. Where you feel at ease, and what you keep saying there, is your answer.
Lunar
Your clarity moves with the moon. Because nothing in you is fixed, each day colors a decision differently, and no single moment can be trusted with a major choice. Give the big questions a full lunar month, about twenty-nine days, talking them over with people who love you as the phases turn. What still feels right after the whole cycle is genuinely yours.

The twelve profiles
Two of the six lines together, read as the costume a life is lived in.
1/3
You are the investigator who learns by living. Part of you needs a solid foundation: to study, research, and understand before you feel safe to act. Another part learns only by bumping into life: trying, failing, adjusting. Neither is a flaw. What others call mistakes are your method; each discovery of what doesn't work becomes authority no book could give you.
1/4
You build depth first, then share it with your people. One side of you must dig to the bottom of what matters: you don't feel secure until you truly understand. The other side lives through friendship and network: your opportunities, and your influence, travel along the relationships you tend. Master your subject, then let your circle carry it further than you could alone.
2/4
You carry natural talent that works best half-hidden. You need real time alone: that is where your gift ripens without effort. But you are not meant to stay hidden: friends and networks will call you out, seeing in you something you barely notice yourself. Guard your solitude without walling it off, and answer the calls that name what you genuinely love doing.
2/5
You are a quiet talent that the world keeps calling on. Left alone, you happily do your own thing, hardly aware of how good you are. Yet people project onto you: they sense you could save the situation, and often you can. Not every call deserves a yes. Answer the ones that match your actual gift, and retreat without guilt to refill.
3/5
You learn the hard way and lead the practical way. Life gives you trial and error as a teacher: things break, plans collapse, and each time you rise knowing more about what actually works. People sense this and call on you to fix real problems. Their expectations can be heavy; meet the ones you truly can, and let your scars be credentials, not shame.
3/6
Your life unfolds in chapters. The first thirty years or so are full-contact learning: trial, error, and discoveries about what doesn't work. Then comes a long, quieter stretch of watching from the rooftop, sorting what you lived. Later still, you step back in as someone people trust: an example seasoned by real mistakes, not theory. Be patient with the early turbulence; it is curriculum.
4/6
You influence through relationships, and you grow into an example. Your opportunities arrive through people who already know and trust you: the network is your soil. Meanwhile life moves in phases: an experimental youth, a long middle period of standing back and gaining perspective, and a later season where your steadiness itself becomes guidance. Tend your friendships; they are both your path and your platform.
4/1
You walk a fixed path with a warm hand. Underneath everything sits a deep need to understand, a foundation you study and secure until it holds your weight. On top of it, you reach people through friendship and familiarity. Strangers rarely move you; your circle always does. You are not built to bend to every trend. Stand on what you know, among people you trust.
5/1
People look to you for solutions, and your power is that they rest on real study. Strangers project capability onto you: the fixer, the general, the one who will know what to do. Often you do, because underneath sits a researcher who never trusts a shaky foundation. Verify before you promise, deliver what is practical, and step back before projections harden into demands.
5/2
The world sees a rescuer; you know yourself as someone who mostly wants to be left to your own gifts. People project big expectations onto you: you seem like the answer to their trouble, and sometimes you truly are. But your talent is natural, not on tap. Choose the calls that genuinely fit, deliver something practical, then retreat and restore. Selectivity is your integrity.
6/2
You are becoming an example, on a natural timetable. Youth throws you into experiences, some bruising, all instructive. Around thirty you climb onto the roof: a long stretch of watching, refining, and letting your innate talent mature in relative privacy. In time, people begin coming to you simply for how you live. Don't rush any phase; the trust you attract later is built there.
6/3
You are the example who never stops experimenting. Life comes in three acts: a turbulent, trial-and-error youth; a middle period of pulling back to gain perspective; and a later chapter of embodied wisdom. But your ground floor stays restless: even as an elder, you learn by touching, testing, and sometimes breaking things. That mix of perspective and fresh scars is exactly what makes your guidance believable.

The nine centres
Nine centres, each defined or open. Defined is consistent; open takes in and amplifies.
Head
This is where inspiration presses on you: the wellspring of questions, wonder, and ideas that ask to be thought about. If it is defined in you, you have your own reliable way of wondering, a steady source of mental spark. If it is open, you soak up the questions of everyone around you; remember that not every question you carry is yours to answer.
Ajna
This is the mind's workshop, where impressions become concepts, opinions, and ways of making sense. Defined, it gives you a consistent style of thinking and conclusions you can rely on, though they can harden into certainty. Open, your mind entertains many viewpoints and rarely settles; that is not weakness but flexibility. You were never required to be sure of everything.
Throat
This is the body's outlet, where inner life becomes words and action, where things get said and done. Defined, you have a consistent voice and a characteristic way of expressing and manifesting. Open, your voice adapts to the room, and you may feel pressure to speak just to be noticed; your words land best when the moment genuinely calls for them.
G
This is the seat of identity, love, and direction: the quiet sense of who you are and where your life is pointing. Defined, that sense is steady; you carry your own compass wherever you go. Open, your identity flavors itself with the people and places around you, a gift for tasting many ways of being. Choose your places and companions with care; they shape you.
Heart
This is the center of willpower, worth, and promises: the force that says 'I will' and means it. Defined, you have dependable will: you can make commitments and keep them, and your self-worth doesn't need outside proof. Open, willpower comes in bursts, and there is a pull to prove your value by over-promising. You have nothing to prove; commit sparingly and rest guiltlessly.
Sacral
This is the great life-force battery: the energy for work, making, and sustaining. Defined, you have renewable power that recharges through sleep, meant to be spent on what your gut says yes to; used rightly, it hums for decades. Open, you borrow and amplify this energy from others, often working harder than the energized people around you. Learn when enough is enough, and rest before exhaustion decides for you.
Spleen
This is the body's oldest intelligence: instinct, immune sense, timing, and the healthy fears that keep you alive. Defined, you have a steady intuition about safety and well-being; its first whisper is worth trusting. Open, you absorb other people's fears and can cling to what feels secure (jobs, habits, people) past their season. Feel the fear, weigh it, and let go on time.
Solar Plexus
This is the emotional center: desire, moods, passion, and feeling, moving in waves that rise and fall on their own schedule. Defined, you generate those waves yourself: no feeling is final, so let decisions wait for calm water. Open, you take in and amplify the emotions of everyone near you; that makes you deeply empathic. Just remember which feelings walked in wearing someone else's coat.
Root
This is the center of pressure and drive, the adrenal push that says 'get moving, handle it, begin'. Defined, you have your own steady relationship with stress; pressure fuels you at a pace you can sustain. Open, you absorb the urgency around you and hurry to be free of it, finishing things just to quiet the buzz. Most deadlines are softer than they feel; your pace is allowed.

Definition
Whether your defined centres form one circuit or several, and what that does to timing.
Single
All the defined parts of your energy system are wired into one continuous circuit. Inside you, everything talks to everything: information and energy flow without gaps, so you process life quickly and feel self-contained. You don't need others to complete you, which is freeing, but remember that most people integrate more slowly. Your wholeness is a gift; impatience is its shadow.
Split
Your defined energy runs in two separate islands that don't touch on their own. Certain people bridge the gap the moment they walk in, and suddenly you feel whole and clear, which is why relationships matter so much to you, and why solitude can feel like an unfinished sentence. Let others complete the circuit without handing them the verdict; the bridging is chemistry, not destiny.
Triple Split
Your defined energy lives in three separate islands, each with its own voice. No single person bridges them all; you feel most integrated moving among varied people and settings, letting different company connect different parts of you. Clarity takes you a little longer: the pieces confer before they agree. Give big decisions time and a change of scenery, and don't let anyone rush your synthesis.
Quad Split
Your defined energy is divided into four separate islands, a rare and complex wiring. You carry four steady domains that don't naturally converse, so weaving them into one clear knowing takes real time, and a few specific people can bridge gaps no crowd can. You are not slow; you are thorough by construction. Guard your processing time the way others guard their money.
None
Nothing in your energy system is fixed: no center runs the same way every day. You are pure openness: a mirror that samples whoever and whatever surrounds you, changing texture with the moon itself. Consistency was never your assignment; honest reflection is. Choose environments and people carefully, since you become the room you're in, and give major decisions a full lunar cycle to ripen.

Motivation
The six fuels, from the variable: what is actually moving you when you move.
Fear
Motivation of Fear: you move from what needs attention, and your gift is vigilance. Its distortion is Need, acting to fill a lack; when you feel driven rather than alert, the motivation has slipped.
Hope
Motivation of Hope: you move toward what could be, and your gift is faith in the unproven. Its distortion is Guilt, hoping on others' behalf; when you act to make up for something, it has slipped.
Desire
Motivation of Desire: you move from wanting, and your gift is knowing what you are for. Its distortion is Innocence pretending not to want; when you act as if you have no stake, it has slipped.
Need
Motivation of Need: you move from what is required, and your gift is knowing exactly what is missing. Its distortion is Fear, acting from threat; when everything feels urgent, it has slipped.
Guilt
Motivation of Guilt: you move from responsibility, and your gift is a conscience that keeps its word. Its distortion is Hope for others' approval; when you act to be forgiven, it has slipped.
Innocence
Motivation of Innocence: you move without an agenda, and your gift is being where you are. Its distortion is Desire, wanting the outcome; when you start steering, it has slipped.

Determination
How the body takes things in, food and information alike.
Appetite
Determination of Appetite: your body does best on simple food, one kind at a time, eaten when hungry. Complexity on the plate dulls the whole system.
Taste
Determination of Taste: your body is guided by flavour and by the company it eats in. Eating alone or without pleasure is where it goes wrong.
Thirst
Determination of Thirst: temperature runs your digestion, hot or cold, and liquids matter more than most people's. What you drink and how warm sets the day.
Touch
Determination of Touch: your body wants calm or, for some, a little nervous energy around a meal. The atmosphere at the table is the main ingredient.
Sound
Determination of Sound: your digestion follows what you hear while you eat, quiet for some, lively for others. Choose the room before the menu.
Light
Determination of Light: your body eats by the light it is in, direct sun or soft indirect. Where and when you eat matters more than what.

Environment
The kind of place the design says you think best in.
Caves
Environment of Caves: you are yourself in enclosed, protected places with one way in. Open plans and crowds cost you; a room with a door is where you think.
Markets
Environment of Markets: you come alive in places of exchange, where things and ideas change hands. Movement around you is not distraction but fuel.
Kitchens
Environment of Kitchens: you belong where things are made and mixed, warmth and process and people passing through. Sterile spaces starve you.
Mountains
Environment of Mountains: you need height and distance, a view over things, air. Being above the scene is where your perspective returns.
Valleys
Environment of Valleys: you do well where sound carries and life gathers, sheltered places between heights. You are made for the middle of things.
Shores
Environment of Shores: you belong at edges, where one element meets another, water and land, town and country. Thresholds are where you are most yourself.

Perspective
The angle you naturally see from, which is also the one you can get stuck in.
Survival
Perspective of Survival: you see what threatens and what keeps you safe, first and fastest. It makes you practical; it can make you see danger where there is only change.
Possibility
Perspective of Possibility: you see what could be done, the branching options. It makes you inventive; it can leave you never choosing one.
Power
Perspective of Power: you see who holds the room and how force moves through a situation. It makes you effective; it can make everything a contest.
Wanting
Perspective of Wanting: you see what you and others want, the desire underneath the words. It makes you perceptive; it can make you restless.
Probability
Perspective of Probability: you see what is likely, the odds in a situation. It makes you a good judge; it can make you cautious past the point of use.
Personal
Perspective of Personal: you see how a thing relates to you, what it means for your own life. It makes you sincere; it can make the whole world about you.

Cognition
The sense you take the world in through, ahead of the others.
Smell
Cognition of Smell: you know through the nose, the oldest sense, before words. Trust the first impression of a place or a person; it arrived before your reasons.
Taste
Cognition of Taste: you know by whether a thing is to your taste, in the literal and the wider sense. Discernment is your instrument.
Outer Vision
Cognition of Outer Vision: you know by what you can see, the surface and the detail of the world outside. Look before you decide.
Inner Vision
Cognition of Inner Vision: you know by the image that forms inside, the picture behind your eyes. Close them to see clearly.
Feeling
Cognition of Feeling: you know by the felt sense of a thing in your body before your mind names it. The body is the first reader.
Touch
Cognition of Touch: you know by contact, by handling and being near. Distance keeps you from knowing; get close.
