A lot, or Arabic part, is not a body. It is a point found by measuring the arc between two planets and projecting it from the rising degree, which means it moves as fast as the ascendant does and depends entirely on your birth time. The Lot of Fortune, the best known, measures the sun to the moon by day and reverses at night, and Hellenistic astrologers read it as the body and the fortunes that come to it.

Fortune
The Lot of Fortune is the Moon's lot: the body, luck, what comes to you without being earned, the ground you stand on. Its sign and house show where life provides and where it asks you to receive.
Spirit
The Lot of Spirit is the Sun's lot: will, intention, what you do on purpose. Where Fortune is what happens to you, Spirit is what you set in motion. Its house is where your choices carry furthest.
Eros
The Lot of Eros is the lot of Venus: desire, appetite, friendship and mutual favour, what you reach for because you want it. Its place shows the shape of your wanting.
Necessity
The Lot of Necessity is the lot of Mercury: constraint, what must be dealt with, the argument you cannot walk away from. Paulus calls it the cause of struggle and of enmity; it is also where your mind is sharpened.
Courage
The Lot of Courage is the lot of Mars: boldness, force, the nerve to act, and its shadow in rashness. Its place is where you are brave, and where bravery costs.
Victory
The Lot of Victory is the lot of Jupiter: trust, good expectation, alliance, contest won. Its place is where hope is answered, and where you are honoured or rewarded.
Nemesis
The Lot of Nemesis is the lot of Saturn: what lies beneath, limit, the cold and the hidden, the account that is settled. Its place is where the tradition asks for sobriety, and where endurance is learned.
Basis
The Lot of Basis is the shorter arc between Fortune and Spirit laid off from the Ascendant, always below the horizon: the foundation the two rest on. Valens reads it for the stability of the life as a whole.
